Rites of Passage & Youth Mentorship | Deep Play

As a therapeutic mentor, ritual guide, and group facilitator, Kevin offers himself in service to the healing and enlivening energies that flow through our inner lives, our communities, and the natural world. His work begins with deep listening — attending to the true needs and desires of the soul, whether they are freely expressed or buried. It is his conviction that when these deeper energies are contacted and courted, the renewal of purpose, meaning, belonging, vitality becomes genuinely possible.
Drawing on depth psychology, parts-work, psychodynamic processes, myth and story, creative expression, Jungian dreamwork, and the ancestral technologies of ritual and rites of passage, Kevin guides people back into living relationship with their inner life, with nourishing community, and with the natural world. His deepest hope is that in serving individuals and groups in this way, something larger can constellate: a deeply nourishing culture of connection, meaning, and vitality that has always been our birthright.
Kevin currently finds himself immersed in studying Rites of Passage at East Tennessee State University through the interwoven lenses of depth psychology, anthropology, and religious studies. He also guides wilderness immersion ceremonies, experiential therapeutics, and psycho-educational groups for men in recovery from addiction. And in the margins of it all, he is excitedly bringing a Rites of Passage program for teens to life this fall.
Offerings
Rites of Passage mark a youth's crossing from childhood into adolescence, or from adolescence into young adulthood. The more sustained and in-depth the preparation for these crossings, the more powerful and meaningful they become.
In mentoring young people — whether toward a Rite of Passage or simply in support of healthy maturation — I listen for what is alive in them: their curiosity, their passions, their hunger to explore and create. From there, I help them find pathways where that aliveness can be expressed and thrive.
Central to this mentorship is a shared exploration of what it means to be human — through myth, story, and ancestry; values and ethics; philosophy; art and craft; nature connection; and spirituality.

Men’s Groups are spaces to reconnect with the strength and support of authentic brotherhood. In a culture where many men feel isolated, this work helps rebuild connection, trust, and shared purpose.
Together, we deepen emotional honesty, strengthen integrity and accountability, and learn to support one another with attunement, presence and respect. Through shared experience and mutual witnessing, each man is invited to explore his gifts, challenges, and deeper self to find greater clarity, authenticity, and purpose.
In one-on-one therapeutic mentoring sessions, I work with people grappling with addiction, depression, grief, anxiety, lack of meaning, relationship issues, emotional shutdown, explosive anger, life changes, and health issues, among others.
Drawing on extensive experience and training in eco-therapeutics, psychodynamic process-work, Jungian dream-work, IFS parts-work, ritual and rites of passage, mindfulness, 12-step recovery, and men's work, I offer an attuned, caring, and curious presence. Together, we explore exercises that bring forth your innate healing capacities that not only bring relief, but also generate greater vitality and meaning in your life.
The phrase "deep play" speaks to the paradoxical nature of play: that it can be light-hearted, fun, and joyous and alternately emotional, psychologically rich, spiritual, cathartic, darkly humorous, and soulful.
Framed this way, play is an ideal way to explore the full-range of human experience - especially those aspects that can be locked up and oppressed with seriousness and gravity - suffering, spirituality, and work among others.
Stay tuned for Deep Play programming!
